What can we do? Action Suggestions for Parents

  1. Get informed Read some of the articles available on this site and stay tuned for more articles, news, and event listings.
  2. Join an action group: Meet together with other concerned parents and citizens to plan for measures that can be taken locally to get the word out and promote proactive results. If you are interested in joining or starting a local initiative, come out to one of the events posted on this website or send us an email to request advice. Please be aware that this is a grass-roots movement that requires local volunteering and participation for results.
  3. Let your school know how you want your children to be educated by using this Parent’s Directive Regarding the Education of Their Children.
  4. Let the Minister of Education, Attorney General, the Premier, and your MLA know that you disapprove of the way that the education system is being used to indoctrinate your children with a controversial social agenda and that parents should be the ones consulted about any major changes to the curriculum. Remember to be respectful and considerate.
  5. Inform others:
    • Talk to your children’s teachers and principal.
    • Encourage your friends to get more informed.
    • Send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Remember to keep it short and to the point. Do not be inflammatory or disrespectful. Rather, confidently assert the truth. Here is one sample letter that appeared in the Vancouver Sun on September 29, 2008:

Social Justice course begets more controversy

It is with dismay that we again see how the Correns continue to hold the Ministry of Education hostage the moment anything remotely negative is expressed regarding homosexuality. The Abbotsford School Board has reacted responsibly to concerns brought forward by the citizens they represent. This is what they were elected to do. Yet the moment something like this occurs, the Correns cry “foul,” continuing to show their intolerance of anyone who does not agree with them. The injustice here is that the Correns can push their lifestyle to such a degree, insisting not only on acceptance, but on legislated and required approval.
